Integrating XpressDox with iManage - an Overview

XpressDox provides a full integration with iManage

XpressDox provides a full integration with iManage. There are different ways in which you can integrate:

  1. Run templates from XpressDox Cloud (this includes the Office 365 add-in) and save assembled documents and/or datasets into the correct iManage Workspace.
  2. Launch templates from inside iManage, directly from a Workspace and save assembled documents back to that Workspace.
  3. Run templates from XpressDox Desktop and save assembled documents and/or datasets into the correct iManage Workspace.

When using options 1 and 2 above, templates are stored in your XpressDox Cloud account and simply accessed from different places. Access your templates from the browser, from the Office 365 add-in inside Word, or inside iManage.

Whichever way you choose to do it, there are a few steps to follow in order to save assembled documents to iManage.  This is an overview article; click on the links provided to access detailed step-by-step instructions.

OAuth 2.0 Authentication:

The integration makes use of OAuth 2.0 authentication, which you can read more about here.

Cloud iManage or iManage Work / XpressDox Cloud or XpressDox self-hosted?

XpressDox and iManage can be used in different combinations, and depending on those combinations different setups apply.

  • If you use Cloud iManage and XpressDox Cloud, send us an email to request access
  • If you use Cloud iManage and a self-hosted XpressDox server, then you need to send a request to XpressDox or to your iManage consultant and provide the details specified at this link. This is to get your instance of XpressDox registered as an application in iManage.

  • If you use iManage Work (self-hosted)  and XpressDox Cloud, then follow the instructions at this link. You will specify your own key and secret, and XpressDox will specify the redirect URL.
  • If you use iManage Work (self-hosted) and a self-hosted XpressDox server, follow the instructions at this link. You will specify your own key, secret and redirect URL.

The type of integration

Templates can be run from your XpressDox Cloud instance, the Desktop ribbon, or from within iManage. All environments are described here.

If you want to launch templates out of iManage, please request the installers from support@xpressdox.com and then go to these instructions. All of the integration types will save the assembled documents (and data if you choose) to iManage.

Configure your DMS in XpressDox

Whichever type of integration you will use, this is a necessary step. The configuration of the DMS needs to be done inside the XpressDox Desktop product (Word add-in). Click here for a detailed step-by-step instructions on this configuration process.

Configure your Standard Folders in XpressDox

Next, configure your Standard Folders to control how the assembled documents are saved back into iManage. Note that this can also be controlled by the templates, but should you choose to do in the configuration then follow these steps. Again, whichever type of integration you will use, it is necessary to configure where the assembled documents will be stored. Click here for a detailed step-by-step instructions on this configuration process.

Set profile / document properties

An optional step. Read here for more information about setting profile / document properties.

Enable “Recent” Interviews (when running from inside iManage only)

An optional step. Use the «SetCustomDocumentProperty()» to enable users to run Recent Interviews from inside iManage. Read more about that here.

Information about the buttons / context menus (when running from inside iManage only)

If you have chosen to run XpressDox out of your iManage instance there are several options for the button / context menu which can be available to end users. Read more about that here.
