Integrating XpressDox with iManage - an Overview

XpressDox / iManage integration

XpressDox provides a full integration with iManage. The integration makes use of OAuth 2.0 authentication, which you can read more about here.

 

There are 2 main parts to this integration:

 

Save to iManage: Run templates from XpressDox Cloud (this includes the Office 365 add-in) and save assembled documents and/or datasets into the correct iManage Workspace.
Launch from iManage: Launch templates from a Workspace inside iManage, and save the assembled documents back to a folder inside that Workspace.

 

 

Before we get started, please supply the following information by sending an email to support@xpressdox.com:

  1. The instance of XpressDox you are using
  2. Your iManage tenant ID
  3. Your iManage URL

 

Templates can be run from your XpressDox Cloud instance, the Desktop ribbon, or from within iManage. In all of these cases, the assembled documents (and data if you choose) will be saved to iManage. And if you choose to launch templates out of iManage, please request the installers from support@xpressdox.com

 

 

Configuration:

  1. Supply some information about your DMS to XpressDox by going through the configuration process. Please follow the steps outlined here.
  2. Control the location and naming convention of documents (and possibly datasets) saved to iManage. Follow the steps outlined here.

 

 

Running templates from inside iManage (an optional extra):

Although not necessary, there are many advantages to running templates from inside iManage:

  1. The template is accessed from the workspace and saved back to a folder on that workspace.

An XpressDox button will be added to your instance of iManage. Templates are run on a Workspace level, and as such the Client and Matter ID will be known by the interview, completing the process and saving the assembled document back into the correct Workspace.

 

  1. The interview can make use of tags to ensure a simpler and more streamlined interview. On a Workspace level in iManage set which tags which should be visible when XpressDox is run for that Workspace. A limited set of templates is presented to users, minimizing the amount of navigating required. Read more about tags here.
  2. If the users are most comfortable working in iManage, then they don’t have to leave the environment to work in another system.
  3. Workspace properties can be read by the interview.

Note that you can read either the alias «custom4» or the description «custom4_description». This applies to custom 1-9 and 12; other custom fields do not have descriptions.

 

  1. Make use of ‘shadow’ documents i.e. store an assembled document in iManage along with its Template ID. Run the template by running the ‘shadow’ document. Read more about that feature here.

 

To enable the functionality of running templates from inside iManage, please follow the instructions at this location after receiving the installers from us. Once enabled, also do the following:

  1. Enable “Recent” Interviews (an optional step). Read more here.
  2. There are several options for the button / context menu which can be made available to end users. Read more about that here.

 

 

When designing templates:

  1. Use SetProfileProperty to set properties for use in the profiling of documents
  2. Use SetDataProfileProperty to set properties on datasets
  3. Use SetCustomDocumentProperty to write custom document properties on assembled documents
